The ‘flagship’ of Wellington’s Chinese New Year Festival is Festival Day, with a programme that reflects all the traditional aspects of a Chinese New Year celebration, and is showcased as the finale of this Wellington event by the following three events:
Asian Market - Food
10.30am to 6.30pm, Shed 6
Ah, the taste-sensations and smells of delicious Asian foods! Come and see what's on offer; foods of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnamese and Chinese, all waiting for you to enjoy. Community groups and local restaurants and cafes have joined forces to bring all these delicious foods for you to sample, for lunch, a snack or just from intrigue - it's all worth the walk and wait! The Market wouldn't be complete without an opportunity to meander and purchase from the must-haves of craft, merchandise and information stalls.
Asian Market - Craft & Information
10.30am - 4.30pm, TSB Bank Arena
Discover the new and interesting; crafts, calligraphy and culture.

Confucius Institute is bringing it to the schools; offering a rare opportunity to workshop traditional Chinese dance, check out our Resources tab 'For Schools', and visit their stall at the Asian Market on Festival Day to see what else they do for the community. Capital E is joining us from their fantastic new premises just a few steps from the Asian Market, with kids activities, interactive screens and building paraphernalia. The Wellington Chinese Garden is taking shape, come and see the progress and support the magnificent concept for Wellington's community. Stay supple and healthy by visiting our two well-being specialists; chiropractors and acupuncturists. These are just some of the stall selection, don't miss out on all the fun.
11am - 4pm, Frank Kitts Park
Lighthouse at Home is moving south after being in the business of Auckland childcare for the last 30 years, and is a proud Platinum sponsor of the 2016 Waterfront Carnival. A fun place for kids to play, storm the inflatables and cup 'n saucer ride. These rides are all free allowing fun-fuelled activities for the little ones to 'just do it' whilst care-givers can relax their feet and wallet.
2pm to 3pm, Starts from Courtenay Place and finishes at the Frank Kitts Park
Communities share their spirit of what Chinese New Year means to them by parading through the main streets of Wellington – a fabulous display of colour and celebration. The Year of the Sheep features lion dancers, dragon troupes twisting through the central city route, plus traditional costumes of past dynasties.
11am to 4.30pm, TSB Bank Arena
Entertainment from local performers, plus a preview of the stunning Shaanxi Little Plum Blossom Qinqiang Opera Arts Group. Check out the programme below.
