Goong Hee Faat Choy!
Wellington welcomes Chinese New Year 2014 – The Year of the Horse. Celebrated worldwide on Friday, 31 January 2014, this is the first day of the Chinese New Year calendar.
Considered a major holiday for the many Asian cultures, Chinese New Year, or often referred to as the Spring Festival, is steeped in many traditions. It is a time for family, reunion, good food, and encouraging themes of good luck and fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity.
Asian Events Trust is proud to be the organiser of the Wellington Chinese New Year Festival – and we’ve been doing it for 12 years now, completing a full 12-year animal cycle.
And to Wellingtonians and the wider community, AET thanks you for embracing the Chinese culture and helping to grow this Festival to what it has become today, and the way forward for future generations. So with an abundance of double-happiness we celebrate this 13th anniversary whilst welcoming in the Year of the Horse.
As the cultural events capital of New Zealand, we want Wellington’s Chinese New Year Festival to be a showcase of energy and excitement. We’ll light up the night sky with an explosion of colour and sound; introduce fashion trends and dance styles to the stage; enliven the streets with a fun and tradition in our street parade; and of course embrace local and international culture in our stage show.
Join in and enjoy this free Festival because there’s something for everyone!
